Spring assessment disease levels 2000
 
Twenty five plants from each surveyed crop were assessed visually as the plants met along rows.
 
  • Stem canker was again the most prevalent disease recorded in the spring.
  • Stem canker was recorded on all crops surveyed in the South East. As in 1999, the highest incidence within crops was recorded in the North where a mean of 48% plants were affected.
  • PLRV was recorded in 2.5% crops and 0.2% plants.
  • As in 1999, skin spot was recorded in crops from the East and South West & Wales only.
  • Black leg was recorded in all regions except the Midlands & West.
