Three pest assessments take place in the spring and summer.


Green - Yellow Bud Sampling: Summary

In total, 84 sites across the England and Wales were assessed for at the green to yellow bud stage for pollen beetle numbers. Only one site (in Lincolnshire) was above the 15 per plant threshold. The vast majority of sites (60 = 71.5%) had fewer than 5 pollen beetles per plant.

The average pollen beetles per plant, across the survey, was 3.8. As Figure 1 below highlights, this is the second highest average in the last 15 years. However, the average value and most sites are still well below the economic threshold for spraying.
